Innova Star PD Power Disc (Phantom Sword)
1
The Innova Power Disc PD, better known by its Phantom Sword nickname, is an overstable control driver built from Star plastic after Innova picked up the mold when Discmania stopped having it produced for their Originals line. Star gives it the grip and long term durability Innova is known for.
Flight Numbers: 10 / 4 / 0 / 3
Star out of the box is firm with a slightly slick first few throws, then it settles into a tacky, dependable grip that holds through wet grass and cold mornings without losing traction on release. It resists turning over even after a season of hard forehand hits, which is the whole point of this mold.
Thrown flat it holds a straight, controlled line before fading hard left at the end, and it barely flinches into a headwind, which makes it a reliable pick on exposed holes. Compared to the faster XCaliber, it needs less arm speed to open up while still holding that same very overstable wall.
This is a driver for players who already have some experience, new throwers will struggle to get it moving without turning it into a short, hard fade. Intermediate and advanced forehand throwers get the most from it, and it's a good pick for anyone who wants a controlled driver they can throw as hard as they want without worrying about it flipping.
Need it to hold up longer in the wind? The Innova Star Destroyer trades a little control for more distance in a similar overstable class. Want something with a touch less fade for shorter forehand shots? The Discraft ESP Heat is worth bagging alongside it. See more in our overstable distance drivers.
