    Discraft Heat Review

The Discraft Heat is a beginner-friendly distance driver with maximum glide. When thrown with a bit of hyzer, it's easy to get this understable disc to flip up and fly on flex or turnover lines. This disc is an excellent introduction to the distance driver category, and this Discraft Heat review will help you decide which Heat in stock and on sale is right for you.

    Discraft Heat Plastics

    • Z Line: A stiff, slick, translucent, and very durable blend. The Heat reportedly has a little less turn in this plastic.
    • Big Z: Virtually identical to Z Line, the Big Z has a slightly gummier hand feel and a more opaque look.
    • Titanium: A very stiff blend that has maximum durability. Discs generally fly more overstable in this plastic.
    • ESP: Solid durability but with a more flexible and softer hand feel. Discs generally fly close to their posted fight numbers in ESP.
    • FLX: Z FLX and ESP FLX are very flexible and gummy versions of regular blends. Discs have better grip and fly more understable in FLX.
    • CryZtal: Z Line blend that is more translucent and less opaque. Runs of the Heat in this plastic have extra stability.

    Discraft Heat Flight Numbers

    • Speed: 9
    • Glide: 6
    • Turn: -3
    • Fade: 1

Discraft gives the Heat a perfectly neutral 0.0 stability rating, but this will vary greatly depending on your skill level. It is best for those with slower arm speed, as the Heat will have a straight flight with a lot of glide. A confident flat rip will produce effortless flex shots that hang in the air, and a hyzer throw will penetrate forward with a gentle fade.

For power arms, the Heat will start flipping immediately. This makes it an easy roller disc when thrown hard. Dial back the power, and it'll be a controlled turnover machine. The Heat's lack of fade makes it less predictable, particularly in windy conditions.

    Dimensions

    • Diameter: 21.1cm
    • Height: 2.1cm
    • Rim Depth: 1.2cm
    • Rim Width: 1.9cm

Discs at or above 2cm of height are usually putters or midranges. The Heat's 2.1cm height gives it one of the highest dome tops of any driver on the market. The combination of its high dome and wide rim gives the Heat a distinctive shape that feels tall in the hand. The Heat has an extra high dome in ESP plastic.

    History

The Heat debuted in 2014 at the Discraft "Ace Race," an annual promotional event. It has been a popular driver ever since, particularly for beginners looking to step up to distance drivers.

    Skill Level Recommendations

The Heat is an ideal driver for beginners and players with less arm speed.

    • Novice: Potential workhorse driver for beginners. A bit fast, but has high turn and glide ratings that will allow low-power players to throw flex lines. As skills improve, the Heat will help develop hyzer-flip and turnover shots.
    • Intermediate: Easy hyzer-flips and turnover shots right out of the box. A solid complimentary disc for anhyzer shots with minimal fade. Can be a long-distance bomber in tailwinds and on wide-open fairways.
    • Advanced: Niche disc for trick shots or rollers.
    • Pro: Not a popular disc for pro players.
