One of the newest disc golf companies on the scene, Thought Space Athletics has actually been around since 2012, but back then, they were focused primarily on turning out distinctive apparel. When founder Aaron Wilmot visited the 2012 World Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina, he identified an apparel niche in the disc golf community. Wanting to bring attractive and comfortable clothing to the disc golf market resulted in Aaron partnering with his long-time friend and renowned graphic artist Tony Graystone.
In 2019, Thought Space Athletics took their first steps into becoming a disc golf manufacturing company, and since have collaborated with many heavyweight brands in the sport, such as Innova, Discmania, MVP, Infinite Discs, and many more. Previously sponsored professionals include Nate Perkins, Garrett Gurthie, and Drew Gibson.
They are currently based out of Augusta, Maine, and the latest news has it that 2022 will see a big uptick in their design molds. People have speculated about who manufactures Thought Space Athletics’ molds and we are here to tell you that they currently have six molds officially approved by the PDGA that are officially manufactured by MVP Disc Sports.
Among Thought Space Athletics’ most popular discs are their Animus Distance Driver, the Pathfinder Mid Range, and Mantra Control (Fairway) Driver. The Animus has a moderately overstable flight pattern and has been compared to a lovechild of an Innova Wraith and Thunderbird.
Common notes on the Pathfinder include its similar feel to a Discraft Buzzz with its gentle fade and straight stable flight on drives. People love that this midrange disc is versatile for any arm speed and it definitely doesn’t hurt that the stamps are attractive.
The Mantra flies similarly to an Axiom Insanity but has a touch more glide and flies better in calm weather conditions. For experienced throwers, the Mantra will have a more understable flight and can be used for dependably shaping shots.
Although Thought Space Athletics’ stamps are frequently talked about as one of the biggest selling points, their high-quality plastic should be deserving of reviews. Overall, the plastics have a great feel and are a tiny bit stiffer and more durable than what we’ve seen from MVP traditionally.
Thought Space Plastics:
Aura: Similar to Neutron Plastic, or Discraft’s ESP. It’s a premium blend of opaque polymers that is durable and has a good grip.
Ethos: Similar to Proton Plastic, or Innova’s Champion. It’s mostly translucent but has seen the addition of swirls and glitter effects. It’s durable and considered the most stable of their plastic offerings.
Ethereal: Similar to Plasma Plastic or Discraft’s Titanium. Shines with its metallic sheen and has cool swirly effects. This plastic is a bit softer and is more understable, and will beat in a little quicker than the others.
Nebula: Similar to MVP’s swirly Cosmic plastic.
Thought Space Athletics is known for its inspirational, beautiful graphics that tie in themes of spirituality, science, and philosophy. Even though they are a smaller company, they stand out not only for their gorgeous stamps but also their customer service- the founder himself may even answer your queries and comments online.
