    Discmania FD Review

The FD "Fairway Driver" is a versatile straight-flyer that can work its way into any player's bag. This neutral disc is a potential every-hole workhorse for intermediate-level players and a straight to slightly understable finesse driver for more experienced arms. In this Discmania FD review we'll take a look at one of Discmania's most popular discs in stock and for sale.

    Discmania FD Plastics

Discmania splits its production between three different factories. The FD is part of the "Originals" line and is molded up in their new facility in Sweden.

    • C-Line: A stiff, slick, and durable blend with a translucent look. The FD is more overstable in this blend, with less turn and a more reliable fade.
    • S-Line: Premium plastic durability with a softer and more flexible hand feel. The FD is more workable in this blend, with an easier turn and extra late-flight glide.
    • Chroma: Discmania's newest blend, this plastic offers the excellent durability with a slightly gummy hand feel and an eye-catching pearlescent sheen.

    Discmania FD Flight Numbers

    • Speed: 7
    • Glide: 6
    • Turn: 0
    • Fade: 1

A combination of extended glide and minimal fade make the FD is one of the best straight-flying drivers on the market. This disc promotes smooth and accurate shots at controlled speeds. For many players, the FD functions as a faster midrange, holding the line out of the hand and penetrating forward before a very gentle hyzer finish.

Beginners can shape hyzers and flex lines with the FD, making it an excellent stable driver for brand new players. As it breaks in, the FD will develop additional turn and become an outstanding hyzer-flip disc. It also performs well on long-panning anhzyer turnovers. In short, this versatile driver can do a little bit of everything.

    Dimensions

    • Diameter: 21.2cm
    • Height: 1.8cm
    • Rim Depth: 1.1cm
    • Rim Width: 1.7cm

The beauty of the FD comes in its simplicity. There is nothing particularly special about this design. Rather, it simply combines a shallow and easy-to-grip rim with a moderate dome top. There is some variance between the plastics, with the C-Line generally being a bit flatter and more stable than the more workable S-Line.

    History

As with all of Discmania's "Originals" line, the FD was previously manufactured by Innova. It debuted in 2011, and became known as one of the best neutral fairway drivers in the game. Discmania ended its relationship with Innova in 2019. They kept the name "FD" but were forced to re-create the disc. Innova re-branded the existing mold as the Hawkeye.

Discmania fans rejoiced when the company released their new version of the FD in 2021. It is a bit more stable than the original FD, but offers the same comfortable hand feel and neutral flight characteristics. It is an excellent introduction to the Discmania brand, and is one of their most popular discs.

    Skill Level Recommendations

    • Novice: A great option for beginners looking for a stable driver to shape hyzers and flex lines.
    • Intermediate: Potential centerpeice of the bag in the fairway driver category. Outstanding versatility with distance upside.
    • Advanced: Dead straight flyer that will develop into a hyzer-flip machine. Fantastic for carving up tight lines in the woods.
    • Pro: Discmania gave top FPO pro Ella Hansen a special "Showstopper" Swirly S-Line FD.
