Overstable distance drivers come in all different speed ratings ranging from 11 to 15. They’re some of the farthest flying discs available on the market (given that you can release them at the high speeds they require.) There are three things that separate an overstable distance driver from the rest: they’ll fade to the left earlier in the duration of their flight, to a larger degree, and also at higher speeds than other drivers.
Distance drivers in general (and definitely overstable ones) are not the greatest for beginners, because overstable discs do require more power to keep them spinning, simply put. These beefcakes are designed to have a reliably strong fade and will typically find the ground quickly at the end of their flight. On a flat RHBH throw, they will have the tendency to fight back to the left. When underpowered, these discs will prove to be pretty frustrating and disappointing.
Overstable discs are great in windier weather as they’re able to fight the headwinds and hold whatever line you put them on. While it’s truly up to your preference, we’ve found that forehand dominant players tend to like overstable discs for better accuracy and control.
An overstable distance driver is also useful for getting around obstacles, overhand thumbers, spike hyzers, and skip shots. You’ll see veteran players and seasoned professionals utilize overstable distance drivers for getting some insane distance, and if you feel like you’re up to the challenge, bag an overstable distance driver and get to practicing!
