Discmania Active Magician
1
The Discmania Magician in Active plastic is an overstable fairway driver from Discmania's budget-friendly Active line, and it flies more like a chunky midrange than a true fairway driver. That tweener feel is exactly why it has stuck around as a starter disc.
Flight Numbers: 6 / 4 / 0 / 2
Active is Discmania's grippy, slightly stiff base line plastic. It reminds me of an older BT Medium, a little gummy in a good way, and it scuffs up fast on concrete tee pads but holds its shape well against tree hits and does not warp. It beats in on the slower side for a base plastic, so a new one and a season-old one fly close to the same.
Thrown flat it holds a straight to slightly overstable line with a small, reliable fade at the end and only a touch of turn, closer to a midrange than a speed 6 driver in the air. It is somewhat domey, so it picks up decent glide for a disc this compact. New players and slower arms get the most out of it because it does not need power to finish its flight, and it handles a headwind without flipping over.
Want the same mold with less dome and more glide? The Active Premium Magician is that same disc in a nicer plastic. Need it to glow for night rounds? Try the Active Glow Premium Magician. See the rest of the overstable fairway drivers here.
