The Roc is one of the bestselling discs of all time for a good reason. This versatile midrange is a do-it-all workhorse that ages like a fine wine, continually adding glide and distance while retaining a reliable hyzer finish. This brief Innova Roc review only begins to explain the storied history behind one of the most iconic discs we have in stock and for sale.
The Roc has been produced in every plastic blend Innova has ever cooked up. To keep it simple, we'll just cover the most popular ones below.
The Roc is the ultra-predictable security blanket that every serious player needs in the bag. Offering both torque-resistance at high speeds and reliable hyzer fade at low speeds, this stable midrange can absorb maximum power without flipping over. While it has a slow flight, the Roc will hang in the air and glide for long distances.
A seasoned Roc is a beautiful thing. A brand new version is overstable, but will soon develop a bit of turn out of the hand and an extended glide phase on the back end. This is especially true in Pro and DX plastics. A well-worn Roc will hyzer-flip to flat and glide straight, carving up tight tunnels and finishing softly near the pin.
The Roc is the quintessential wide-diameter midrange. Its blunt-edged rim has a big bead on the bottom. The flight plate is moderately domed, but this tends to vary based on the plastic type. It is easy to handle in various backhand grips, but is generally not comfortable for forehands.
When it was released in 1987, the Roc was the pinnacle of disc technology. It's hard to imagine, but it was the fastest and furthest-flying disc up until that point. Along with the Aviar, the Roc is a foundational disc in our sport. It has been a staple in the bag of several world champions, and after 25 years on the market it remains one of the most popular midranges in the world.
