The Axiom Proton Prism Pyro is an overstable midrange with a rim width that runs closer to a fairway control driver than most five speeds, wrapped in the Prism overmold that pairs a Proton core with a hard, gummy gyro band.

Proton Prism feels different in the hand than plain Proton. The gyro band is firmer and grippier than the translucent core underneath it, so the disc has some beef to it and takes a beating from tree strikes without much wear. It grips well in most weather, though the two textures in one rim take a couple of rounds to get used to.

The flat top and shallow rim mean this disc goes exactly where it is released, with a diving fade rather than a gradual one at the end of the flight. Thrown at max effort it can pick up a slight turn and a little extra glide, closer to a 2.5 glide than the printed number, but it never gets close to flipping over. That makes it a technical forehand disc under 200 feet and a workhorse for forced anhyzer turnover shots in the wind. It suits intermediate players looking for their first dependable overstable midrange as much as bigger arms who need a placement disc that will not surprise them.
