When it comes to the wide world of putters, the popular sentiment is to simply throw what feels good in the hand. Whether you’re looking for something to throw straight off the tee or a putter to improve your circle game, it’s a smart idea to invest in multiples (or an assortment) of putters that you like in various stabilities and plastics for all your putting needs. Even if you consider yourself a minimalist, you’ll still need a few putters for drives, approaches, various weather conditions, or even just as backup in the event that you lose one.

Putters are generally regarded as the most beginner-friendly due to their workable size, slower speeds, and generous glide. They’ll fly anywhere from 150-200 feet when thrown with correct form. And while there are both shallow and deep putters available on the market, it really depends on how comfortable the disc feels in your hands. For instance, those with smaller hands may prefer a more shallow disc to maintain a good grip and clean release.

Overall, the general category of putters are known to have more overall straight flights- and stable putters are a must for every player’s bag. These discs are meant to fly straight, compared to their understable (discs that turn right) and overstable (discs that fade left) counterparts. Not sure if the putter you’re holding is stable or not? Check the disc’s turn rating, which is the third number. Generally, stable putters will have a -1 or 0 turn rating, and then if you look at the fade rating (the last number in the set of four), they’ll cancel each other out. This is a very general rule, but an easy way to get an idea with just a glance.

Having success with putting comes with consistent practice as well as a reliable, trustworthy throwing putter. Building confidence with putting takes time, and having a disc that you trust would definitely help. Stable putters are great for their “point and shoot” quality!
