Axiom Crave (Proton)
6
The Axiom Proton Crave is a stable fairway driver that flies about as straight as any control driver on the shelf. Proton is Axiom's translucent premium blend, and on the Crave it shows up as a speckled, slightly grippy plastic built to survive years of tree strikes without losing its flight.
Flight Numbers: 6.5 / 5 / -1 / 1
Proton beats in slower than Neutron, so a new Crave holds its line for a long time before it starts to turn over. It has a firmer feel out of the box, a little less tacky than Neutron in the hand, but it grips fine in dry conditions and takes wear well on asphalt tee pads.
Thrown flat, the Crave holds dead straight for most of its flight, drifts a hair at the end of high speed turn, then closes with a soft fade. On a hyzer it rides the line without fighting back, which is why it teaches a clean hyzer flip to players who have never landed one. Slower arms get a laser straight fairway shot out of the box, and bigger arms use the same disc as a control driver that will not turn and burn on a max effort throw. I reach for it on tunnel shots where I need the disc to go exactly where I release it, backhand or forehand.
Want more turn out of the same mold? The Fission Crave is lighter and flips a touch easier. Prefer a softer premium feel? The Plasma Crave grips better in cold weather. See every version in the Crave collection.
