Star plastic on the Gator is grippy without being too soft, and the rounded rim with its low, protruding bead helps the disc stick to the ground on impact instead of skipping away. Because glide is so low, the Gator goes about as far as you throw it and then drops hard with almost no ground play, which is exactly what you want inside 100 feet or when spiking a shot around an obstacle.
