Innova Star Gator (Reaper Edition)
The Innova Star Gator is a bulky, overstable midrange built for shots that need to stay exactly where they land. Star plastic gives it a firm, durable grip that holds up to the tree hits this disc is built to survive.
Flight Numbers: 5 / 2 / 0 / 3
Star plastic on the Gator is grippy without being too soft, and the rounded rim with its low, protruding bead helps the disc stick to the ground on impact instead of skipping away. It takes a beating well and keeps its strong fade for a long time, which matters since this disc is thrown into trees and hard hyzers on purpose.
Because glide is so low, the Gator goes about as far as you throw it and then drops hard with almost no ground play, which is exactly what you want inside 100 feet or when spiking a shot around an obstacle. It handles a headwind well and does not turn over even under a hard forehand. Backhand throwers get the same reliable fade.
Good for intermediate and advanced players who want a dedicated forehand approach disc or a windy day midrange. It is not built for distance, so beginners may prefer a disc with more glide first.
Want a similar overstable feel with a flat top instead of a bead? The Star Invader is worth a look. Prefer a proven overstable approach standard? The Discraft ESP Zone is the usual comparison. Browse our overstable midranges.
