    Innova Roc3 Review

The Roc3 takes the supreme control and accuracy of the iconic Roc midrange and adds a speed boost. The Roc3 has added distance potential but plays the same role on the course: an all-around workhorse in the 200-350 foot range. This Innova Roc3 review covers one of the most versatile midranges in stock and for sale.

    Innova Roc3 Plastics

    • DX: A baseline blend with excellent grip, low durability, and a low price. The Roc3 is easiest to throw in this plastic.
    • Pro: Pro plastic is more stiff and durable than DX, but still breaks in slowly and evenly, allowing for extreme glide with a soft finish.
    • Star: A durable yet flexible premium blend with a nice grip. The Roc3 will fly according to flight numbers in this plastic.
    • Halo Star: A stiff and more overstable version of Star plastic.
    • G Star: A soft, gummy, and very flexible Star variant that is great for wet or cold conditions. G Star discs generally have more understable flight characteristics than other premium plastics.
    • Champion: Stiff, slick, and opaque blend that has maximum durability. The Roc is more overstable in this plastic.

    Innova Roc3 Flight Numbers

    • Speed: 5
    • Glide: 4
    • Turn: 0
    • Fade: 3

While the Roc3 is noticeably faster than the Roc, it maintains the same stable to overstable flight characteristics. It has plenty of high-speed torque resistance and will hold up to elite power and spin without turning and burning. Once it hits cruising speed, the Roc3 displays high-end glide before the reliable hyzer finish takes over.

    Dimensions

    • Diameter: 21.8cm
    • Height: 2.0cm
    • Rim Depth: 1.3cm
    • Rim Width: 1.4cm

The Roc3 has the same wide diameter and big bead as the Roc, but with an extra 0.2cm of rim width. This extra weight around the perimeter translates to some extra speed with a nearly identical hand feel. Runs of the Roc3 tend to have a slightly flatter top and an overall lower profile. Neither the Roc nor the Roc3 is comfortable for power forehands.

    History

The Roc3 debuted in 2017 as part of Innova's "3" series of discs. The company took some of its most popular molds–the Teebird, Leopard, and Aviar to name a few–and increased the rim width, thus adding a bit more speed. This was more than an effective marketing tactic. The "3" molds fly further and faster than their classic counterparts.

    Skill Level Recommendations

    • Novice: A bit overstable for true beginners.
    • Intermediate: All-around workhorse midrange for all backhand throws. Bag multiple Roc3's in different stages of wear to cover all shot shapes in the 200-350 foot range.
    • Advanced: More powerful arms will get huge distance out of the Roc3, with some players throwing it upwards of 400 feet.
    • Pro: One of the most popular molds for Innova-sponsored players, and one of the most common "Tour Series" discs.
