MVP Octane Plastics

• Neutron: The "flagship" blend, this premium plastic is durable with just a bit of flex. Discs fly truest to their flight ratings in this blend.
• Proton: Stiff and highly durable, this blend has a translucent look and is similar to Innova Champion and Discraft Z. Discs fly a bit more overstable in Proton and will maintain original flight patterns for years. 
• Plasma: An eye-catching blend with an iridescent sheen. Softer and more flexible than Proton and Neutron. 
• Fission - This unique blend has air bubbles injected into the plastic. Besides creating super light discs for less powerful arms, this allows MVP to decrease the density of the flight plate relative to the rim, thus increasing the gyroscopic effect. The Octane is a bit more understable in Fission. 
• Eclipse - This glow-in-the-dark blend offers the brightest and longest-lasting illumination of any glow plastic on the market.

The Octane has moderate turn at high speeds with a forward penetrating glide in the mid-flight. It has plenty of stability to finish with a reliable hyzer fade. However, being a stable 13-speed disc, the Octane requires above-average power to achieve a max distance line from a flat or hyzer release. 

Most players must throw with an anhyzer to get a full flexing s-curve. There are better options for long distance hyzer-flips and turnovers. However, the Octane really shines on pure hyzers, flat shots, and skinny flex lines. It's predictable hyzer fade comes fairly late in the flight, giving it a nice combination of distance and control.

These are standard dimensions for a stable distance driver. There is nothing distinctive about the Octane's shape, though beginners and players with smaller hands may have trouble controlling such a wide and sharp rim. It has some dome on top but maintains a sleek hand feel. 

History

The Octane was released in 2016 alongside three drivers in MVP's 23mm class. MVP built its lineup in an organized way, releasing a batch of 21mm drivers in 2015, 23mm in 2016, and 24.5mm in 2017. Categorizing discs by rim width rather than flight numbers make for easy comparisons up and down the flight chart. 

Skill Level Recommendations

• Novice: Too fast and stable for true beginners. 
• Intermediate: Reliable stable driver with big distance potential, especially after it starts breaking in. Try the Octane in lighter weights for more mid-flight workability. 
• Advanced: Potential workhorse distance driver for controlled maximum distance.
• Pro: An excellent option for elite arms, but MVP-sponsored pros generally prefer the greater control and stability of the slightly slower MVP Photon.
