Looking to buy some overstable midranges? Midranges are some of the most versatile discs out there, and are frequently purchased (for many who are newer to the game) as the next logical step after getting comfortable with throwing putters

    Overstable Midrange Discs

With their wide diameters that allow them to glide for long distances, these discs also have comfortable rims, allowing players with a variety of hand sizes to find a secure grip. Not many other discs have this ability to appease people with hands both small and large! Typically, midranges will have speed ratings of  4, 5, or 6 but can also go as slow as 2.

These discs can fly anywhere from 300-400 feet (experienced throwers may get over 400 feet). Flight patterns of midranges, like fairway and distance drivers, will vary from very understable to very overstable. Because of this, players will choose specific midranges for short drives off the tee pad or long upshots.

Overstable midranges are a super popular choice in many disc golfers’ bags. Intermediate players may utilize an overstable mid range for forehand approaches and flex shots. The fade is useful when navigating obstacles out on the course.

Like other overstable discs, these discs are used when you’re looking for control and a reliable fade. Having solid form is important when it comes to throwing these midranges, because if not, overstable discs, in general, can be very frustrating for a newer player. If you’re struggling to control the flight path of your midrange, you may need a little more practice.

Overstable mid ranges are defined by their torque resistance and beefiness. Discs like the Innova Roc are hugely popular with intermediate players for forehand or backhand shots, or for players who are wanting to get used to more power. Even though midranges tend to require less power overall, overstable midranges will need more power to get the flight it was designed to have.

A quick rundown on stability for our curious readers: Discs are manufactured with three primary flight paths that allow the disc to either finish left, straight ahead or to the right. Stability can be thought of as a spectrum ‘overstable’ and ‘understable’ at the two ends, and stable (or sometimes referred to as ‘neutral’) in the middle.

You’ll need an overstable midrange if you’re looking for more distance control, nailing those utility shots, or simply because you’re in facing some windy weather. If the weather condition is crazy, you can even use the overstable midrange for putting if you feel like you need the extra security.

Veteran players that have the ability to throw hard enough and generate the spin necessary for an overstable disc will be able to enjoy that reliable left fade and get creative with shot shaping.

Overstable midranges are predictable, useful, and fun, so what are you waiting for? Get your next midrange disc right here to add to your arsenal. We also have understable midrange discs and stable midranges, too!
