Hailing from Michigan, Discraft burst onto the disc golf scene in the late 1970s and is now the second-largest disc golf disc manufacturer in the US. Jim Kenner and Gail McColl started out of a small garage in Westland, Michigan, when discs were considered low-quality toys.

Discraft sought to create equipment that would reflect the skill of high-performing disc sports players. Over the past four decades, they worked to offer a massive product line of almost every type of disc (disc golf, ultimate, and freestyle).

With a wide range of plastic lines, they create affordable yet high-quality discs designed for players of every skill and ability level. Here’s a quick breakdown of Discraft plastics:

    Discraft Disc Plastics

Ti (Titanium): This plastic was released in 2012 as their newest plastic line and has the strength and durability of Z plastic as well as the grippy feel of ESP. This plastic is the most stable out of all Discraft plastics and will beat in slowly.

Cryztal FLX: Cryztal FLX is only offered on a few molds and is an attractive, translucent FLX and Z plastic blend. Check out our Ledgestone 2021 Cryztal FLX Sparkle Buzzz!

Z-FLX: The FLX plastic is a super flexible version of the durable ESP plastic line, popular with cold-weather players. It’s soft and pliable to the touch and considered more understable.

ESP: This highly durable, opaque plastic was created in 2006 and was made to be highly grippy and resistant to wear.

Z: A semi-transparent and stiff blend of plastic, decent grip, and tends to be more overstable than ESP plastic. This line comes in a variety of attractive, bright colors.

Big Z: Big Z plastic is opaque and has maximum durability and a superior grip. It’s considered to be more stable than ESP. Big Z is a combination of Titanium and Z plastics.

Z-Lite: Popular for players who seek lighter weighted discs, the Z-Lite still retains all of the qualities of Elite-Z.

Z-Glo: This glowing plastic blend has strong durability and excellent grip.

Jawbreaker: Jawbreaker has an extremely grippy feel with medium durability.

X: An affordable baseline plastic with a tacky feel but beats in relatively quickly.

Pro-D: Considered the most economically friendly plastic blend, Pro-D gives users a very grippy feel but is the least durable of all of Discraft’s plastic lines. This plastic is the most understable of the bunch.

Soft Pro-D: A variation on standard D plastic; it is only available for putters.

In their Distance Driver class, some popular discs from Discraft are the Nuke, Surge, Avenger, and Heat. In the Fairway/Control Drivers class, we see a lot of Predators, Raptors, and Talons. Popular midranges include the highly cherished Buzzz, Comet, and the Meteor, and for putters, the Zone, Roach, and Luna are all very well-liked. Shop our collection of Discraft here.

You should know that Discraft discs come with stickers with a broad weight range. This range is taken from weighing the entire batch of produced discs and then taking the average, so there may be some variance with the disc you actually receive. Consider it part of the journey of buying discs!

As far as professional representation goes, Discraft has current some heavy hitters like Paul McBeth, Paige Pierce, Paul Ulibarri, Valarie Jenkins, and Nate Doss, just to name a few. And as of mid-January, Discraft has signed Chris Dickerson for a four-year deal.

Whether you’re a die-hard Discraft fan or just in the market to buy a Tour Series disc, stay up to date with us at Reaper for all your disc golf needs.
