Discraft Mantis (Z Line)
1
The Discraft Mantis in Z Line plastic is a stable fairway driver built for straight lines and low ceiling shots through the woods. Z Line is Discraft's durable, slightly slick premium plastic, and on the Mantis it gives you a controllable turn that beginners and advanced players both lean on.
Flight Numbers: 8 / 4 / -2 / 2
Z Line takes a while to beat in, which is a good thing here: the Mantis holds its numbers for a long time instead of going flippy after a season. It is a touch slicker than ESP in the hand, but it holds a comfortable dome that helps the disc glide rather than stall.
Thrown flat this control driver turns gently and then fights back to a soft fade, giving a long, controllable S line rather than a hard dump. Hyzer flip it and it flattens out for a dead straight tunnel shot; put it on anhyzer and it produces a long, predictable turnover. New players get a fairway driver that flies its numbers with a normal arm speed, beginner friendly enough to be a first control driver, while a big arm can still shape it around corners on backhand or forehand.
