Discraft Big Z Cicada
The Discraft Cicada shows up here in Big Z, a stable fairway driver built to hyzer flip clean and hold its line once it gets there. Big Z is Discraft's translucent, stiff premium plastic, the same family that gives their Z Line discs their long shelf life.
Flight Numbers: 7 / 6 / -1 / 1
Big Z feels buttery in the hand once it warms up, glossy and firm, and it holds its stable shape for years instead of breaking in fast like a base plastic would. It is not as tacky as ESP, so expect a slightly slicker release, but it takes tree hits and skips across rough terrain without chunking.
Thrown flat this driver goes almost dead straight with a small fade at the end and real glide for a 7 speed. Give it a hyzer release and it will flip up to flat and ride there, or hold the hyzer if you release with less power, which makes it a natural for s-turn shots and tight gap hits. Power throwers can push it into a long turnover, while a controlled release keeps it locked on a straight line.
Good for a newer player learning to trust a hyzer flip, and just as good for an experienced thrower who wants a workhorse fairway driver they can rely on every round. It sits comfortably enough in the hand to throw forehand or backhand without a learning curve.
